State and School officials recognize that transportation is one of the most vital and visible support systems for Arkansas public school students. Every school day more than 4,400 school buses are driven over 250,000 miles, transporting approximately 300,000 students to and from Arkansas schools. Accordingly, Act 805 of the 1995 General Assembly designated the first week of each school year as "School Bus Safety Week".
