A draft of the first annual School Performance Report, including definitions of the indicators contained therein, is now available on the web site of the Arkansas Department of Education (http://www.as-is.org/). This report reflects calculations performed on data sent for your earlier review, as well as information received from testing companies and other entities. A press release has been issued informing the general public of this fact. A more detailed set of definitions along with a worksheet are being mailed to schools to provide a clearer understanding of how the indicators were calculated.
This will remain a draft until the official reports are mailed to the parents of all public school children, now anticipated for late October. This delay in publishing and mailing the final product will allow for the inclusion of the most recent results of the Grade 4 and Grade 8 Benchmark Exams, which are expected to be delivered the end of September or shortly thereafter. At that time, we also hope to include the 99-00 ACT results, the 98-99 college remediation rate, and the 98-99 and 99-00 SAT9 scores for those districts receiving waivers for on-grade spring testing.
The fact that the School Performance Report covers three school years has presented some unique challenges to the data collection process. A large number of schools have undergone grade reorganization and/or name changes which have contributed to some unusual alignments of test scores and other indicators. If a school in your district exhibits such an anomaly on the draft document, please notify the Department as soon as possible. Where practical, we will make every attempt to properly rearrange the data elements prior to the release of the official report. Any other questions or concerns should be similarly addressed.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all school personnel who have assisted in this process, and we appreciate your patience and understanding in this endeavor. We will notify you when a definite date is established for the mailing to parents.
