The attachment below is a final copy of the Arkansas Department of Education's revised RULES AND REGULATIONS ESTABLISHING THE ACADEMIC STANDARDS FOR STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN COMPETITIVE INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES. These revised regulations were approved by the State Board of Education at its meeting on August 14, 2000, and reviewed, with no objections, by the Arkansas Legislative Council's Administrative Rules and Regulations Subcommittee on September 7, 2000, and the full Council on September 15, 2000. The revised regulations become effective on October 1, 2000.
As one of the changes in the revised regulations, please note that the State Board of Education removed the section from the previous regulations concerning the scheduling of competitive interscholastic activities during semester examinations. The question as to whether or when to schedule competitive activities during this time period is now left up to the local school district.
The revised regulations replace any existing regulations on this topic, and all other copies should be destroyed. PLEASE DISTRIBUTE A COPY OF THIS MEMO AND THE REVISED RULES AND REGULATIONS TO ALL APPROPRIATE SCHOOL PERSONNEL WHO WORK WITH COMPETITIVE INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES IN YOUR SCHOOL OR DISTRICT.
