Ray Simon, Director of Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), is the keynote speaker on Friday morning at the Arkansas Conference on Teaching at the Excelsior and Statehouse Convention Center. The Conference begins at
8:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2000, with over 200 sessions, workshops, and short courses for primary, elementary, middle, high school and college teachers, administrators, and curriculum coordinators. The conference ends at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 3.
A planning committee consisting of teachers, university professors, curriculum supervisors, and ADE curriculum specialists helped plan outstanding sessions and workshops. These include SmartStart/SmartStep, Arkansas Comprehensive Testing, Assessment, and Accountability Program, the benchmarks in English, Mathematics and Science, the recently revised Social Studies Framework, and many topics that aid in student academic improvement as identified by school administrators and teachers.
