"Committed To Education" is the theme for an art competition for public school students in Grades 2-6, which is being sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), in conjunction with the Leadership Class XV of the Greater Little Rock Chamber of Commerce. Students are being asked to draw a picture representing what education means to them. Plans call for the winning student artwork to be used on a special state license plate. Aside from the artwork, the license plate will also have the theme, "Committed to Education," on it. Plans call for the proceeds from the sale of these special license plates to be used to purchase home computers for public school sixth-grade students who meet certain academic requirements in Grades 2-6.
The student submitting the winning entry will receive a personal home computer. The deadline for entries is October 27, 2000. Student entries should be submitted to the building principal. After a school winner is selected, that winning entry will be submitted to the local school district's superintendent's office. A district-wide winner will be selected and submitted to the local area education service cooperative. Each cooperative will select a first-, second-, and third-place winner, and will then submit those three winners to the ADE by November 27. A panel of art educators, community leaders, staff members of the ADE, and members of Leadership Class XV will select the winning design. The winning student will be notified no later than December 8.
