The Guide to Grants for Organizations for Fiscal Year 2002 is now available at the Arkansas Arts Council. Arts in Education (AIE) grant guidelines are included along with instructions and application materials. Schools are encouraged to apply for one of three types of AIE grants:

Residency Grant:

AIE residency grants place professional artists in residencies at specific school sites or in conjunction with other non-profit community organizations to provide a way for artists to demonstrate their art form, create or perform works of arts so that participants may observe the creative process, and relate their art form to other K-12 curriculum areas. During a residency program, artists are based a in site (for example, a school) where they work with a site coordinator and participating staff members to develop programs and activities based on the site's needs and facilities.

Arts Curriculum Project Grant:

AIE Arts Curriculum Project grants must seek to enhance current arts curricula or must assist in establishing on-going arts programming/curricula in schools. Projects may last from one day to one school year. Grant funds may be used for such activities a program development, providing technical assistance, providing in-service training, developing curriculum materials, or other projects designed to increase skills in and an of awareness arts in education. Arts Curriculum Project activities may serve students pre-K through 12, adult and/or special constituents directly or indirectly. Applicants may use either AIE roster artists or outside consultants for Arts Curriculum Project activities. Applicants wishing to use outside consultants must submit materials about the proposed consultant along with application package. Consultants are reviewed in conjunction with the applications.

Combination Grant:

A residency program and an Arts Curriculum Project may be combined as an Arts in Education Combination grant proposal. For example, a teacher in-service may be followed by an artist-in-residency program. Combination grants proposals should have an overall theme and should demonstrated involvement with elementary and/or secondary schools.

The deadline for AIE grant proposal is Friday, February 2, 2001, at 4:30 p.m. This is not a postmark deadline.

NOTE: Regular K-12 classroom teachers, as well as arts specialists , are encouraged to apply.
