Ark. Code Ann. § 12-12-913 or Act 989 of 1997 is Arkansas' version of "Megan's Law", the community notification law that allows law enforcement agencies to communicate with the public when a sexual offender is in their area.
Section (g)(1) of Ark. Code Ann. § 12-12-913 charges the Arkansas State Board of Education with the responsibility of promulgating guidelines for the disclosure of this information to school district staff, students and parents. Each school district is encouraged to use these guidelines for drafting its own notification policy in cooperation with its area law enforcement.
