This Memo is a revision of Director's Memo ACC-01-042. It contains new information.

The Arkansas Comprehensive Testing, Assessment and Accountability Program (ACTAAP) requires that alternate assessments be administered for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students who cannot participate in the regular Benchmark assessment and students with disabilities whose IEP team has determined to be eligible for the alternate assessment. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires that an alternate assessment system for eligible special education students be in place for the 2000 - 2001 school year. All schools with eligible special education students at grades 4, 6, 8, and 11 and eligible Limited English Proficient students at grades 4, 6, and 8 shall participate in the Alternate Portfolio Assessment this school year.

The training for implementation of the Alternate Portfolio Assessment System was given September 12 and 13, 2000. THE TRAINING FOR TESTING COORDINATORS WILL BE NOVEMBER 27, 2000 FROM 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The meeting will be broadcast from the Arkansas Department of Education Distance Learning Unit in Little Rock to the educational cooperatives across the state. Registrants should report to the meeting site at least 30 minutes early.

THE FOLLOW-UP QUARTERLY MEETINGS WILL BE HELD ON THE FOLLOWING DATES: NOVEMBER 17, 2000; FEBRUARY 5, 2001; AND APRIL 2, 2001. The meetings will be broadcast from the Arkansas Department of Education Distance Learning Unit in Little Rock to the educational cooperatives across the state. The times of the broadcast will be from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for special education teachers and from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for LEP teachers. Registrants should report to the meeting site at least 30 minutes early.

A registration form should be submitted for each session (Special Education and LEP) for the district representative(s) attending each meeting. Return the completed registration forms (attached) no later than November 13, 2000, to:
