The Arkansas International Center is offering two projects to Arkansas teachers: Bringing China to Arkansas and a statewide teacher seminar on East Asian history and culture. Both are funded by The Freeman Foundation. The application deadline for both projects is January 15, 2001.

The project Bringing China to Arkansas includes pre-trip study at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a three-week study trip to China in early June 2001. Selected teachers must pay $500; however, the program will pay for all other expenses. Middle and secondary school social studies and humanities teachers from Arkansas are eligible to apply. Participants will receive a $500 stipend distributed in two installments and $200 worth of materials on the three countries. After teachers complete all aspects of the seminar, each participating school will receive an additional $300 of materials on China, Japan, and Korea. There is subsequent opportunity for travel to China or Japan. Additional information and application are available from
