The National Youth Science Camp (NYSC) is one of the nation's premier incentive programs in secondary science education. Initiated in 1963, the Science Camp has become a unique educational tradition. Held near Bartow, West Virginia-just a few miles from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Green Bank-the National Youth Science Camp annually provides 102 student delegates an opportunity to exchange ideas with scientists and other professionals from academic and corporate worlds. These delegates, two from each state and the District of Columbia, not only demonstrate academic achievement in science but also show potential for thoughtful scientific leadership. The 2001 National Youth Science Camp begins on Thursday, June 28, 2001, and ends on Monday, July 23, 2001.
The NYSC experience is offered at no cost to its participants, so that selected delegates may attend regardless of their financial status. Through contributions from the State of West Virginia, private foundations, corporations, and individuals, the National Youth Science Foundation is able to offer the Science Camp delegates a "once in a lifetime" experience. Educational and recreational programming, as well as meals, lodging, and round-trip air passage on scheduled airlines are provided free of charge to the delegates. An application and other information are attached. The Camp's web site is: http://www.sciencecamp.org. Deadline for applications is March 21, 2001. Submit the application to:
