Arkansas educators are invited to join the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and educators in other states in observing the Holocaust Remembrance Days April 16-22.
The 2001 theme, which marks the sixtieth anniversary of the beginning of the genocide of European Jews, is "Remembering the Past for the Sake of the Future." Holocaust Remembrance Day is set aside to remember the victims of the Holocaust and to remind Americans what can happen when bigotry, hatred, and indifference prevail.
The United States Holocaust Memorial Council was created by congressional action in 1980 with the mandate "to lead the nation in civic commemorations and to encourage appropriate Remembrance observances throughout the country."
Additional information about observing the Days of Remembrance is available by contacting Days of Remembrance, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, 100 Raoul Wallenberg Place, S.W., Washington, DC 20024 or see the Museum's web page at www.ushmm.gov.
