The Arkansas Department of Education, Special Education and the Arkansas Special Education Resource Center will be offering Arkansas Schools Are For All Kids (AR-SAFAK) training in the fall of 2001. The purpose of this training is to assist schools in developing and implementing inclusive methods and policies that support the achievement of all students. In addition, issues pertaining to general and special education curriculum/accountability will be addressed.

In preparation for enrolling a team in this training, school districts should plan to send interested building level administrators and other selected personnel to the Distance Learning Presentation being offered as an introduction to the training. The presentation will be on April 19, 2001, at each of the 15 educational cooperatives listed below beginning at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 10:15 a.m. This overview of the program will be presented live by Ray Simon, Director of the Arkansas Department of Education; David Westmoreland, Education Curriculum Supervisor Mathematics/School Improvement and Instructional Support, Arkansas Department of Education; Marcia Harding, Associate Director, Special Education, Arkansas Department of Education and others involved in Arkansas Schools Are For All Kids.

Crucial elements of the training, its function within the general education system and information on registering a team to attend next year's training will be outlined during the presentation.
