The Arkansas Department of Education announces the opportunity of a national dialogue on homelessness and ways in which students, schools, communities, and members of Congress can help address homeless issues. On Monday, April 23, 12:00-1:30 p.m. central time, students will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate via a toll free number, as displayed at the time of the broadcast, and videoconferencing during the live broadcast from the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC. This unique educational event will broadcast via satellite and the Internet webcast. In order to increase awareness of homelessness, promote community service and civic activities students in Grades K-12 (homeless and housed), community organizations, and members of Congress are encouraged to participate. In addition, schools are encouraged to use and incorporate the Kids' Day curriculum on homelessness into existing lesson plans and to launch service learning projects that utilize the curriculum and involve students in local community service and activities.
