Each year the Department of Education must prepare allocations for federal funds based on a funding formula provided by the U.S. Department of Education. Most of those programs require that private schools operating within a local school district have the option of participation with funding based on the number of students enrolled. For many years each program officer has made a separate request for the private school enrollment and/or a statement from the school(s) that they do or do not wish to participate. Through the Arkansas Department of Education’s intent to reduce or eliminate duplicated work, we are moving to collect this information via APSCN beginning with the 2002 school year.
For the current year, we are asking for this information one time and the data will be used across the program areas that are effected. Please complete the attached form providing enrollment of private school students and a statement of commitment to participate in the programs identified. Just a reminder, according to the Improving America’s Schools Act (IASA) legislation, the local district is charged with the responsibility of maintaining documentation that all private schools within a district have been contacted and provided the opportunity for participation in federal programs.
Thank you for your response in providing this information. Please note that the deadline for returning this information is May 28, 2001.
