The annual statewide arts conference, ArtLinks, will be held on Monday, October 29, 2001, at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. The theme of ArtLinks 2001 is "Cultural Crossroads: Connecting Communities & The Arts." Featured speaker, Lily Yeh, Executive Director of The Village of Arts and Humanities, will share her model for engaging residents in the process of transforming a neighborhood filled with despair and blight into a place of beauty, hope and renewal.
In Philadelphia, with the help of neighborhood children, Ms. Yeh began working to transform a vacant lot into an art park of mosaic sculptures, murals and greenery. Today, The Village is a major provider of arts-inspired programs in education, land transformation, construction and economic development.
Artlinks 2001 will also offer sessions on improving grant writing skills, how to produce a community-based arts project, and creative movement. A resource area will be provided, along with roundtable discussions on different topics, and a performance by the Shakespeare Festival of Arkansas will be presented.
