The purpose of this memo is to clarify recent questions about the eligibility of the regional service cooperatives to receive grants from the Safe and Drug Free Education program. Act 1055 of 2001 clarifies the question and declares that regional service cooperatives do meet the definition of “local education agencies,” and are thus eligible to receive state and federal funds upon written request from the school districts.
In view of this shift in program guidance and other administrative considerations, the application process for the 2001-2002 is being modified. Application packets recently distributed at area meetings are being restructured and will be distributed to all schools via Director’s Memo in the near future.
