In Director's Communication ACC-02-036, dated September 11, 2001, we informed you of a satellite downlink of a teleconference sponsored by the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE). The teleconference "School-wide Strategies for Violence Prevention" was scheduled to broadcast on September 19; however, it had to be cancelled on short notice for reasons resulting from the national tragedy that we experienced on September 11.
The purpose of this Director's Communication is to inform you that the downlink for the teleconference "School-wide Strategies for Violence Prevention" has been RESCHEDULED for Monday, October 22, 2001, 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM CDT. The teleconference will provide participants with preventive strategies that support school personnel and students and help create a positive, healthy, and safe school environment. Participants will learn to: identify characteristics of antisocial and violent youth; secure school buildings using crime prevention through environmental design; create a positive inclusive school culture; address the peer culture and its problems of bullying and harassment; involve parents in making the school safer; and develop a plan to improve school climate and safety.
Attached to this memorandum is the technical information for downlinking the broadcast, as well as, information about the presenter. There is no fee for accessing this teleconference. This teleconference will be downlinked at the educational cooperatives.
