Any course implemented which is not one of the 38 required by the Standards for Accreditation must be approved by the Arkansas Department of Education. All existing courses that are not vocational offerings, but are required by the Standards of Accreditation for grades 9-12, must be based on the state curriculum frameworks. Requests for the approval of any courses, other than vocational courses, must be directed only by the district superintendent or school principal to Dr. Gayle Potter, Academic Standards and Assessment, Arkansas Department of Education, for course proposal assessment. The process for course approval is attached.
Further, courses for which an additional quality point is desired also must follow the attached approval process.
