A two-week Alliance Summer Geography institute will be held this July 8-19, 2002, at the Delta River Nature Center in Pine Bluff. The institute theme this year will be "Assessing the Resources of Our Rivers and Public Lands." Land uses along rivers and public lands, as well as conservation issues, are major topics of the institute. A major component will also be the demonstration of lessons applying content to the classroom.
Several field trips are planned to examine river and public land uses in central Arkansas. Utilization of Internet resources will complement the content and lesson strategy components.
All teachers grades 4-12 are eligible and the application deadline is April 15, 2002. The institute will offer room and board for resident teachers as well provide materials and a travel stipend. Commuter teachers are also encouraged to apply. A $200 tuition stipend is also offered for those wishing to take it for graduate credit.
