The Arkansas Department of Education, the Arkansas State Library, and the Arkansas Reading Association are pleased to announce the results of the voting for the 2002 Charlie May Simon Children’s Book Award and the 2002 Arkansas Diamond Primary Book Award. More than 39,000 ballots have been cast and the results have been tabulated. The choice of the voting students is as follows:
CHARLIE MAY SIMON CHILDREN’S BOOK AWARD
RAMONA’S WORLD by Beverly Cleary is the winner of the 2001-2002 Charlie May Simon Children’s Book Award. It was published by William Morrow.
THE LANDRY NEWS by Andrew Clements is the Honor Book for 2001-2001. It was published by Simon and Schuster.
ARKANSAS DIAMOND PRIMARY BOOK AWARD
HOOWAY FOR WODNEY WAT by Helen Lester and illustrated by Lynn Munsinger is the winner of the 2001-2002 Arkansas Diamond Primary Book Award. It was published by Houghton Mifflin Co.
WHERE IS THAT CAT? by Carol Greene and illustrated by Loretta Krupinski is the Honor Book this year. It was published by Hyperion Books for Children.
Both awards are under the sponsorship of the Arkansas Department of Education, the Arkansas State Library, and the Arkansas Reading Association, with support from other cooperating organizations.
