The Pygmalion Commission on Nontraditional Education is partnering with the Department of Human Services, Children and Family Services to bring Dr. Robert Ackerman, noted speaker and author of many books dealing with troubled youth, to Little Rock on June 12, 2002. Most recently, Dr. Ackerman was a keynote speaker at the 8th Joint National Conference on Alternatives to Expulsions, Suspensions, and Dropping Out of School, where he received outstanding acclaim for his presentation. He is internationally known for his work with families and children of all ages. Dr. Ackerman’s credentials are impressive, among them being Professor of Sociology and Director of the Mid-Atlantic Addiction Training Institute at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

The conference will be at the Department of Human Services’ Auditorium, 700 South Main Street, Little Rock, on Wednesday, June 12, 2002, beginning at 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. (with lunch on one’s own.) There is no charge for this training.

The conference is entitled “A Day with Robert Ackerman” and will consist of two parts: Working with High Risk Adolescents: Overcoming Resistance and Developing Resiliency Skills and The Impact of High Risk Youth on Your Self-Esteem.

There is limited seating and educators will have until May 31st to register. To be certain of a seat, it is suggested that registration take place immediately. Reservations should be made to:
