The Department of Education, Special Education Unit, sends a special thanks to all Special Education Supervisors and Early Childhood Coordinators for facilitating the Paraprofessional Training implemented during the past several years. The response to the training has been very positive, with paraprofessionals continually requesting additional training. Such training is being developed and assistance will be needed to facilitate the training.

Due to the above stated need, Cassandra Green will be conducting a Paraprofessional Training Facilitators’ Session on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at the Arch Ford Education Service Cooperative Conference Room, 101 Bulldog Drive, Plumerville, Arkansas from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. This training session will cover the new training materials from the Paraprofessional Cultural Awareness and Supervising Teacher Modules, as well as provide an overview of the Core, Early Childhood, Secondary and Special Health Care Needs Modules. It is important that facilitators receive and hear the same information in order to maintain a high level of quality for the Paraprofessional Training. In addition, the session will provide the opportunity for discussions concerning future directions for paraprofessional training. To qualify to receive training as a facilitator, an individual must hold a current Arkansas teacher’s license in special education. Persons employed as Special Education Supervisors and/or Early Childhood Coordinators are preferred. This would meet the requirements set for other agencies.

To ensure paraprofessional training is provided in each region of the state, all Special Education Supervisors and Early Childhood Coordinators are asked to attend the facilitators’ training. There will be on-site registration, with lunch provided. Materials, training information, and site assignments will be provided during the meeting.

For an accurate lunch count, email NaTasha Fells at nfells@arkedu.k12.ar.us or call her at 501-682-4222 no later than September 13, 2002 to confirm your attendance.

Please contact Cassandra D. Green at the contact information listed at the top of this Director's Communication if assistance is needed.
