Southwestern Bell and the Arkansas Association of Middle Level Education are at this time seeking applications for the 2002-2003 Shannon Wright Award.
The Shannon Wright Award is presented annually to a middle level school that demonstrates outstanding achievement and implementation of the best middle level practices as outlined by Smart Step and Turning Points: Preparing American Youth for the 21st Century. Schools that serve any grade configuration that would include any of grade levels 5 through 9 are eligible to apply. Applicant schools must also be institutional members of the Arkansas Association of Middle Level Education (AAMLE).
The Shannon Wright Award will be presented at the AAMLE conference in Hot Springs in February. The award carries with it a $5,000 cash incentive from Southwestern Bell to be used to further best middle level practices.
Applications are now being accepted and are due no later than December 15, 2002. Schools desiring to apply may send a formal request on school letterhead to:
