The Arkansas Governor’s School will be conducted June 15 – July 26, 2003, at Hendrix College, Conway. An orientation and preparation period, beginning June 10, will precede the school opening.
The Arkansas Department of Education is currently accepting faculty applications from educators and other professionals for teaching positions at the 2003 school in three broad areas: those in specific academic disciplines, those dealing with the conceptual development of the students, and those aiding the personal growth and development of the students. The academic specialty areas are choral music, drama, instrumental music, language arts, mathematics, natural science, social science, and visual arts. These classes center on concepts and theory with an emphasis on twentieth century thought. The conceptual development classes include a study of philosophy, ethics, and epistemology. The personal growth and development classes focus on psychological theory and personal understanding. Those interested in applying for positions should exemplify the following qualities:
1. extensive knowledge of subject areas;
2. familiarity with 20th century theories, concepts, and practices in their area of expertise, and
3. ability to communicate effectively with high school students of high potential.
Please post the enclosed flyer on a departmental bulletin board. Governor’s School is committed to achieving diversity (racial, ethnic, gender) in faculty. Therefore, applications from qualified candidates, who would contribute to this diversity, are especially encouraged. Deadline for applications is Friday, January 3, 2003.
