December 2002 graduates from Arkansas colleges and universities, who have not successfully completed the Praxis II assessments required for the three-year initial teaching license, will be eligible for a one-year non-renewable teaching license.
Professional Licensure will issue the one-year provisional license upon receiving written documentation of employment and hire date on school district letterhead from the employing school district. The provisional license will be valid for one year from hire date.
The one-year provisional license will be converted to the three-year initial teaching license upon successful completion of the required Praxis II assessments. Individuals wishing to convert to the initial teaching license must submit to the office of Professional Licensure a completed Licensure Application form indicating they are converting a provisional license to an initial license and attach a copy of the Praxis score report reflecting passing scores on the required Praxis II assessment(s).
Prior to scheduling the Praxis III Performance Assessment, a novice teacher working under the one-year provisional teachng license must have been employed for at least six months and have successfully completed all required Praxis II assessments. An alternate option is to have been employed for at least six months and have converted the one-year provisional license to the three-year initial teaching license.
Individuals teaching under the one-year provisional license will not have to convert to the three-year initial teaching license if they successfully complete the Praxis III Performance Assessment. Once the Praxis III is successfully completed, the Professional Licensure office will be notified and the standard five-year teaching license will be issued.
