The “Traveler Project” provides access to online full text databases for school, academic, public, and special libraries supported by funding resulting from the Library Services and Technology Act. These databases are secure and authoritative, providing access to full text magazine articles in the most well known magazines and research tools. World Book is also provided online through joint funding of the Arkansas State Library and the Arkansas Department of Education. Other resources and research databases are provided at various levels. To get further information contact the persons named above.
Registration Deadlines:
February 6, 2003, is the next deadline for the “Traveler” database registration for new libraries and to make any changes to existing school registrations.
Traveler Access through School Web Sites:
Traveler is licensed for Arkansas residents and students only. Web access must be restricted only to Arkansas clients. This means that any school web site with Traveler databases listed must allow access only to that particular school’s students/staff.
Please limit the access to students and staff of schools by: 1)providing ID numbers or passwords that they can use on the school’s web page or
2)dialing into the server at the school or library and have an ID and/or PIN number for the server.
Traveler is not licensed to provide any remote access for World Book Encyclopedia, so it is limited to use in the library or school.
The State Library is developing a way to provide one access point from a portal through the Arkansas State Library web page. Traveler users need to be careful not to infringe on the licensing agreement for all of the database services.
Please contact Sally Hawkes, Office of Library Network Services at the Arkansas State Library by email at shawkes@asl.lib.ar.us or by phone at 501-682-6052, for any questions about Traveler web access.
