Praxis III Performance Assessment
Policy and Procedures

The Praxis III Classroom Performance Assessment is designed to assess the skills of the novice teacher in the teacher's classroom setting. The assessment utilizes descriptions of the class and subject matter, direct observation of the teacher’s classroom practices by a trained assessor, and interviews structured around the classroom observation.

When the novice teacher is ready to schedule the assessment (after consultation with the mentor and building principal), the Application to Schedule Praxis III Performance Assessment must be filed with the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE). The Arkansas Department of Education will pay for up to two (2) Praxis III Performance Assessments for each novice teacher.

Instructions for taking Praxis III are provided on the Arkansas Department of Education website. Click on http://arkedu.state.ar.us/teachers/index.html#praxis. Follow the instructions. To complete the Candidate Profile: Click on "STARS". User ID will be the candidate's Social Security Number. Password is the candidate's first and last initial (upper case) and the last four digits of the candidate's Social Security Number. After the password has been entered, the system will ask the candidate to change the password to something secret. Click "Continue". Complete the Candidate Profile. Click "Submit". Keep in mind an assessor cannot be assigned until BOTH the “Application to Schedule Praxis III” and the “Candidate Profile” have been submitted.
