Effective January 1, 2003, the Arkansas Medicaid Provider Manual has been amended to allow school districts and education services cooperatives to enroll as personal care providers. This Medicaid-reimbursable service should be of interest to school districts and co-ops that have highly medically-involved students in need of regular medically necessary personal care assistance. Personal care services rendered to both general education and special education Medicaid eligible students are eligible for Medicaid reimbursement under this program.
School districts and co-ops interested in enrolling as personal care providers should take note of the following:
1. The provider must assure that a Registered Nurse supervises the delivery of personal care services by personal care aides.
2. A provider application for enrollment as a personal care provider and a Medicaid contract must be completed and approved by the Arkansas Medicaid Program prior to billing for Medicaid reimbursement. Applications may be obtained from the Division of Medical Services (DMS) by calling 501-682-2400. Completed applications should be returned to the DMS Provider Enrollment Unit at the address below:
