Please be advised that the MidSOUTH Prevention Institute, with funding from the Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program, will host several sessions of “The Logic of Prevention Program Planning” at various locations throughout Arkansas during the Spring 2003 training semester.

In order to prevent or to intervene into negative behaviors that affect student achievement, professionals need to understand how to develop, implement, and evaluate prevention programming that is based on scientifically validated research and the logic model of prevention programming. This workshop will provide the foundation necessary to address students’ alcohol/other drug use and violent behavior. Participants will understand the science-base behind prevention by using the logic model of prevention planning, understand how to complete the steps in the logic model of prevention planning, understand how to evaluate prevention programs, and complete a personal action plan for using the logic model. This course is highly recommended for those involved in program planning and grant writing.

The instructor, Sharon Williams, EdS, CPC, is a recent retiree of the North Little Rock School District, where she served as coordinator of Safe and Drug-Free Schools for 14 years. Ms. Williams has reviewed grants for the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention and the Arkansas Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention.
