At the beginning of this school year, each school district was given the opportunity to participate in the “Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program” of the Department of Defense, Defense Logistics Agency. The participating districts received notification which contained the amount of funds allocated to the district, the vendor for the area, the day of the week deliveries will be made, and description of the procedures that must be followed to place orders for the fresh fruits and vegetables.
Attached is a list of school districts that have been allocated funds for this program but have not used any of the allocated funds as of January 2003. Because this is a program that requires a state to use the funds or lose them, a deadline of April 1, 2003 has been set for these funds to be used. Any fund remaining in a district allocation after that date is subject to reallocation to another school district that has used the funds.
