Fourth Annual Arts-in Education Professional Development Retreat
by the Arkansas Arts Council

The Arkansas Arts council will present a two-day Arts in Education professional development retreat Friday and Saturday, April 11-12, 2003.

The retreat will take place at Camp Aldersgate in Little Rock. The cost is $55 per person and includes workshops, meals and overnight lodging at the camp. The cost for making alternate overnight arrangements is $35. Registration forms are available by contacting Cynthia Haas, Arts in Education program manager at 501-324-9769 or cynthia@arkansasheritage.org. The deadline for registration is Friday, March 28, 2003.

The retreat is presented for artists, classroom teachers and community organizations and is designed to explore new ways to bring the vitality of the arts to the classroom and integrate the arts into core curriculum or other program areas. Teachers who participate will receive 12 hours of in-service credit.

Hal Evans, founder and director of Troupe d’Jour, and educational theater company in Houston, Texas, will conduct the series of workshops that will help participants discover how theater, storytelling and creative writing can become an integral part of the learning process. Hal has been an artist-in-education with the Texas Commission on the Arts since 1995. His company has earned acclaim of educators across the country for its work bringing curricula to life through arts integration, specifically grounding its presentations and performances in careful attention to the multiple intelligences theory as the best access to the learner’s abilities. He resides in Spring, Texas.
