National Youth Service weekened for 2003 will be April 11 through April 13, 2003.
Governor Mike Huckabee has signed a proclamation declaring April 12th as Youth Volunteer Recognition Day.
During the year 2003, as in other years, youths in the state of Arkansas have volunteered time and energy in many ways that have greatly impacted communities. For this reason the youths should be given recognition.
The Presidential Student Service Awards have been used throughout the state as one form of recognition. The President’s Student Service Awards is a White House initiative that recognizes young Americans with awards for outstanding community service, while encouraging more young people to serve. For more information about these particular awards, please visit the following website www.student-service-awards.org.
The Arkansas Department of Education, in partnership with the Arkansas Commission on National and Community Service and the Arkansas Department of Volunteerism, are encouraging all schools, churches, non-profit organizations, and any organizations or agencies that engage youth in service to, in some way, recognize these volunteers on April 12th for extraordinary accomplishments.
