The education service cooperatives will sponsor a one-day workshop to fulfill the requirements for counting identified gifted and talented students being served in secondary content classes by a teacher not trained as a specialist in gifted education. It will be held at Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High School, 2501 Barrow Road, Little Rock, on Friday, August 1, 2003, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration will be 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. This will be the only statewide workshop conducted this summer. Teachers should make plans to attend.
The workshop will be for teachers of English, mathematics, science or social studies. Districts that wish to count identified gifted students enrolled in a secondary content option as formally receiving gifted and talented services must send any content teacher, who has not previously attended an approved in-service workshop, unless a waiver has been granted by the Office of Gifted and Talented.
Participants are required to attend the full day in order to obtain certificates of attendance.
Teachers needing this workshop should register through the education service cooperatives or in Pulaski County districts, through the Administrator of Gifted Programs. The deadline for registration is July 7, 2003; however, teachers hired after this date are eligible to attend.
