Act 754 of 2003, stipulates that the required testing for Arkansas licensure can be waived for out-of-state applicants holding a current teaching license and applying for Arkansas licensure through reciprocity, by documenting at least three years of teaching experience.
Teachers licensing through reciprocity that have been assessed the Praxis exams for Arkansas licensure and teachers submitting an initial application for Arkansas licensure through reciprocity, can have that testing waived by documenting three years of teaching experience on school, agency or organization letterhead.
Teachers currently employed with a provisional license through reciprocity that can provide the required documentation, need to complete another application for teacher licensure, indicating they are converting a provisional to a standard teaching license. The application and required documentation will be sent to the Office of Professional Licensure.
Out-of-state teachers interested in Arkansas licensure that cannot document three years of teaching experience, can have the testing waived by documenting they took and passed state required testing for an out-of-state teaching license.
Out-of-state teachers that cannot document three-years of teaching experience or testing that was required for their out-of-state license, will be required to successfully complete the Praxis II Specialty Area Test for their licensure area(s) and the Praxis II Principles of Learning and Teaching at any level. A one-year, non-renewable provisional teaching license will be available to these applicants when they have cleared both parts of the background checks.
Out-of-state applicants holding an expired teaching license will not be eligible for a provisional teaching license through reciprocity and will be required to successfully complete the Praxis II Specialty Area Test for their licensure area(s) and the Praxis II Principles of Learning and Teaching at any level before receiving a standard five-year teaching license.
