Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), Special Education Regulation 24.06.1 specifies that a form be provided for Catastrophic Occurrences reimbursement requests to be returned by no later than May 15 of each school year.
The original form attached to Director’s Memo IA-03-059 for this purpose required the use of Title VI-B funds as an offset against an individual Catastrophic Occurrence reimbursement request. It has now been determined that including Title VI-B as a calculation offset may wrongly penalize districts with unusually high Title VI-B excess costs.
To ensure equity of access to the Catastrophic Occurrence fund by all districts, the reimbursement request form required under Special Education Regulation 24.06.1 has been revised to remove Title VI-B as a reimbursement calculation offset. The revised form is attached. Complete one form for each student for whom reimbursement is requested.
Completed Catastrophic Occurrences reimbursement requests must be returned by May 15, 2003 to be considered. Requests received by ADE, Special Education after May 15, 2003 will not be reviewed for current year funding.
