Act 1729 of 2003 amends Arkansas Code § 6-16-132 to remove two primary requirements: the restriction of a 20-minute increment and the requirement for ninth grade students.

Act 1729 of 2003 requires 60 minutes per week of physical activity for students in grades K-8 which may be met through supervision by ANY person. Although physical education and physical activity are used interchangeably, Act 1729 of 2003 is not to be misconstrued to allow school districts to be non-compliant with the rules that govern the STANDARDS FOR ACCREDITATION OF ARKANSAS PUBLIC SCHOOLS. In accordance with the rules, Physical Education Frameworks must be used to plan instruction for physical education. At least one (1) unit of Physical Education must be offered in grades 9-12.
