State approved testing accommodations may be made for students identified as Limited English Proficient (LEP) as indicated in the Language Assessment Plan. These state approved accommodations should be used as a regular part of instruction and classroom assessments. Giving an unfamiliar accommodation to an LEP student for the state-mandated testing may negatively affect the student’s performance.
An additional state approved accommodation added for the 2003-2004 administration of the Benchmark and End of Course examinations for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students is the use of an English/Native Language word-to-word dictionary. This word-to-word dictionary may not include definitions. It may be used on all sections of the test if this is a classroom accommodation. School districts will need to provide the English/Native Language word-to-word dictionaries for LEP students.
