The Arkansas Comprehensive Testing, Assessment and Accountability Program (ACTAAP) requires that alternate assessments be used for eligible students with disabilities for whom the criterion-referenced testing is inappropriate. The criterion-referenced testing includes the Benchmark examinations at grades 4 (Primary), 6 (Intermediate), and 8 (Middle Level), End of Course Algebra I, End of Course Geometry, and End of Level Literacy (grade 11). An alternate assessment has been in place for three years at grades 4, 6, 8, and 11.
In 2003-2004 an Alternate Portfolio Assessment will be implemented for NINTH GRADE STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES WHO ARE NOT ENROLLED IN ALGEBRA I OR GEOMETTRY WHOSE IEPS CONTAIN MATH GOALS AND OBJECTIVES.
School district superintendents will receive a request for information from Questar about the number of students and teachers who will participate in the Alternate Portfolio Assessment for the ninth grade alternate assessment in math for eligible special education students. The count should include ninth grade students with disabilities who meet the following criteria: (1) not enrolled in Algebra I or Geometry and (2) IEPs include math goals and objectives.
