In an effort to determine the health status of children in Arkansas based on the state fiscal year 2002, the Department of Education has requested the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC) to collect health screening and immunization data from school health records. AFMC has already audited physician records, local health unit records, and rural health clinic data for fiscal year 2002. AFMC has selected 285 children’s health records for this audit review. The children whose records will be reviewed will be children enrolled in the ARKids First A or B programs during the 2002 fiscal year.
AFMC area review coordinators will visit the selected schools to conduct the audits of school health records.
Not all schools will be audited. If a student or students from the local school is selected for the review, the school will be notified by AFMC prior to the visit. In the meantime, school nurses should be working to ensure that all health records, including immunization records, are filed and up-to-date. The AFMC auditors will telephone the schools to set up an appointment to review the selected records. Schools will be provided with a list of student names at the time of the visit. The school nurse will need to provide access to the student records selected.
