This memo is to share some exciting news for public schools in Arkansas. In February, the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) will host the Fourth Annual Statewide Teacher/Administrator Job Fair, coordinated by the TeachArkansas recruitment office.

Knowing that Arkansas schools are projected to have a shortfall of teachers each year through 2006, TeachArkansas is working to recruit teachers and provide Arkansas public schools with the opportunity to recruit for positions as well. TeachArkansas would like to invite each school district to join the Teacher/Administrator Job Fair. Each registered school district will have an individual booth for personnel to provide the district’s information and talk with potential teachers. There is a small registration fee of $75 per school district per exhibit area. The fee provides for an 8’ x 10’ exhibit area, one table and two chairs, draping, signage, and refreshments for the booth staffers for both days. A registration form is attached.

The 2004 Job Fair will be held on February 6 and 7, at the Clear Channel Metroplex Event Center, 10800 Colonel Glenn Road in Little Rock (just off I-430 @ exit 4). Adequate free parking is available. On Friday February 6, the Job Fair will be open from 12:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. On Saturday February 7, the Job Fair will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

TeachArkansas will place advertisements in several Arkansas newspapers and will run television and radio ads to announce this event to prospective school employees. TeachArkansas invites each school district to take advantage of this opportunity by reserving a booth for both days. Participants will be able to recruit teachers and administrators for potential vacancies in the local school district.

Staff persons from the ADE Offices of Professional Licensure and Professional Quality Enhancement and other offices at the ADE will be present to answer licensure questions and discuss other topics as well, e.g., the required criminal background check. A representative from the Office of Non-Traditional Licensure will provide information for people not holding a teaching license but interested in becoming teachers.

If hotel accommodations are required for Friday night, February 6, 2004, a block of rooms has been secured at the La Quinta Inn, 11701 Interstate 30. The phone number is (501) 455-2300. When making reservations, ask for the “Department of Education/Job Fair” block and a rate of $39.99/night will be offered (based on availability).

A registration form is enclosed so TeachArkansas can reserve an exhibit space. Complete the registration form and fax it to 501-682-5118 or mail it to the Arkansas Department of Education, Attn: Jamie Goss, 4 Capitol Mall, Room 101-A, Little Rock, AR 72201 by January 15, 2004. Direct questions and requests for additional information to Jamie at 501-683-4382. TeachArkansas hopes each school district will plan to attend on February 6 and 7, 2004.
