Act 825 of 2003 requires the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) to determine and prepare a list of the skills and knowledge that a child should have in order to be prepared to enter kindergarten. The list shall be prepared in a manner that will assist parents in preparing their child for kindergarten.
Children who enter school with a range of skills and knowledge tend to be more successful in school. While mastery of any or all of the skills identified is not required for admission to kindergarten, it is simply a list of skills that will provide parents a place to begin in preparing a child for entering kindergarten.
The Kindergarten Readiness Indicators Checklist (KRIC) will also be located on the ADE website.
