This workshop is intended for classroom teachers, speech/language pathologist, psychological examiners and others with interest in identifying students with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) that may need special education or Section 504 services to avail themselves of an appropriate education. The presenters are Aleecia Starkey, MSP, CCC-SLP, State Consultant for Students with Traumatic Brain Injury and Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Sara Zeno, MCD, CCC-SLP, Clinical Evaluator/Program Representative for Timber Ridge Ranch.
Areas covered in this workshop will include the effects of TBI on student learning, specific needs of the students, causes of TBI, signs a student has suffered a TBI, educational definition and sports injuries. Also discussed will be how to plan for the re-entry of a student with a new traumatic brain injury and the assessment data needed by the school for appropriate identification, programming and placement.
This workshop will be worth three (3) continuing education hours and will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 12 P.M (noon) on two dates. The dates are March 25, 2004, at the Wildwood Centre in Sherwood, Arkansas and April 15, 2004, at the Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative in Pine Bluff.
