The Arkansas Department of Education, Special Education, Project for Children with Deafblindness, in collaboration with University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) is offering a Summer Workshop on Severe Disabilities, including Deafblindness on June 23-25, 2004. This workshop is designed for paraprofessionals who work with students exhibiting vision and hearing losses and for parents or other family members of a child with vision and hearing losses.
The presenter is Dr. Sherry Shaw, Assistant Professor, UALR. Registration costs are being paid for by the Arkansas Department of Education, Special Education. A state per diem for two nights will be paid to individuals traveling over 50 miles one way to Little Rock. This per diem will be limited to 20 people.
This workshop, Summer Workshop on Severe Disabilities, Including Deafblindness, will provide participants with basic knowledge to effectively work with children who have combined hearing and vision loss. The workshop will focus on:

Behavior Management
Creating Reactive Environments
Concept Development
Communication
Orientation and Mobility
Parents Rights Under IDEA
Early Intervention
The Summer Workshop will be held at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, College of Education, Dickinson Hall, Auditorium.
Class times are:
Wednesday, June 23, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Thursday, June 24, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Friday, June 25, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
