National Youth Volunteer Week for 2004 will be the week of April 12th .
Governor Mike Huckabee has signed a proclamation declaring April 16, 2004 as Arkansas Youth Volunteer Recognition Day.

During the year 2004, as in other years, youth in the state of Arkansas have volunteered their time and energy in many ways that have greatly impacted their communities. For this reason they should be given recognition.

The Presidential Student Service Awards have been used throughout the state as one form of recognition. The President's Student Service Award is a White House initiative that recognizes young Americans with awards for outstanding community service, while encouraging more young people to serve. For more information about these particular awards, visit their website at http://www.presidentialserviceawards.org/.

The Arkansas Department of Education, in partnership with the Arkansas Service Commission and the Arkansas Department of Volunteerism, are encouraging all schools, churches, non-profits and organizations or agencies that engage youth in service to recognize these volunteers on April 16th for their extraordinary accomplishments.
