The Arkansas Handbook for Educational Interpreters/Transliterators, Teachers and Administrators—Third Edition 2000, specifies that, “Interpreters in the educational setting must meet or exceed…a minimum Level 3 in Transliterating on the Mid-America Quality Assurance Screening Test (QAST) and Level 2 in Interpreting or minimum QAST Level 3 in Interpreting and QAST Level 2 in Transliterating.”

To help interpreters working in Arkansas public schools meet this requirement, Educational Services for the Hearing Impaired, Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), Special Education, in collaboration with the Arkansas Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, and the Arkansas School for the Deaf, will be offering a week-long training for educational interpreters, June 21-25, 2004.

The workshop will be held on the Arkansas School for the Deaf campus. Meals will be provided and dorm space will be available. Participation will be limited to thirty (30). The cost of the week will be $175 for those staying in the dorm and $125 for those who don’t need sleeping arrangements. Make checks payable to ARID. To register, complete the attached registration form and return to Karin Binko as indicated.
