The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) and the State Mathematics Specialists announce the opportunity for teachers and administrators in grades K-8 to participate in a nationally recognized professional development seminar with a focus on improving mathematics instruction and student achievement. Special grade-level specific sessions help teachers focus on the skills and concepts appropriate for their students. The courses are designed for elementary and middle level classroom teachers, Title I teachers, resource teachers/special educators, and mathematics coordinators.
Three sections of the Marilyn Burns Math Solutions seminars will be offered June 28-July 2, 2004. All sessions will be held at Clinton Elementary Magnet School in Sherwood (North Little Rock).

*Building a Foundation for Algebra – Grades K-8
At the conclusion of the training, mathematics specialists in the education cooperatives or university centers will be prepared to facilitate appropriate school level follow-up training in areas such as: building students’ skills in a specific mathematics content strand, enhancing questioning in the classroom, writing in mathematics, developing and scoring constructed response items, and using embedded assessment to make instructional decisions.
