School districts are required to hold an annual school election. School districts must comply with various legal requirements concerning budget publication, school tax rates, and school elections. The Department provides suggestions to assist school districts in meeting these requirements, along with sample budgets and sample ballots.

The 2004 Annual School Election Requirements and Timelines, Sample Budgets, and Sample Ballots are attached. Section B does not apply to districts that hold an Annual Millage Election prior to September 21, 2004.

The following information is offered to assist districts in planning for the annual school election. The Department is available to respond to questions; however, districts may wish to consult local legal or financial counsel regarding any matters of interest or concern. Neither the Department nor its representatives are allowed by law to directly represent any local district.
