The Pygmalion Commission, the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), and six Education Service Cooperatives, are presenting training to assist school districts in implementing alternative learning environment (ALE) programs. New funding for ALE programs was established under ACt 59 of the Second Extraordinary Session of 2003. Rules were adopted by the State Board of Education on Monday, June 14, 2004.
Educators are welcome at any co-op. PARTICIPANTS ARE ASKED TO REGISTER WITH THE CO-OP PRIOR TO THE DATE OF THE SESSION.
Ms. Janinne Riggs, Assistant Director, School Improvement & Professional Development, will provide information concerning the new Rules for ALE and directors of outstanding alternative programs will present ALE best practices: Gloria Wright, Malvern, started Beta School in 1994 and has had unusually good results in securing large grants; Jim Morgan, Hot Springs, who directs the oldest county-wide cooperative in ALE in Arkansas (1993); and, Pat Burke, Dumas, Target P.R.E.P. School, who has only been in alternative education five years, but has developed such a good program that she presents both in-state and out.
