Parents or guardians desiring to provide a home school for their children must file printed current year Notice of Intent to Home School and Waiver forms with the superintendent of the local school district each year. The normal deadline for filing the forms is no later than August 15 for the fall semester and December 15 for parents who decide to start home schooling at the beginning of the spring semester. The forms may also be filed fourteen (14) calendar days prior to withdrawing the child from the local school district during the school year subject to the provisions set forth in Act 1117 of 1999 for such a withdrawal.
Several inquiries have been made to the Home School Office this year concerning the fact that August 15, 2004, falls on a Sunday. In order to be consistent with standard Department operating procedures in these situations, the deadline for filing the intent and waiver forms will be extended until Monday, August 16, 2004.
