The first of six Literacy Decision Makers’ Teleconferences will be held September 17 beginning at 9:00 am. The teleconferences will be available at local education cooperatives. In central Arkansas, please contact the K-12 Literacy Unit, 501-682-4232 or Karyl Bearden, 501-955-3610.
The purpose of the teleconference is to provide the most current information needed for making decisions about literacy. The sessions will provide criteria for core literacy programs, supplemental programs, assessments, intervention plans and professional development that meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), state laws and the English Language Arts (ELA) Frameworks Revised 2003. With informed decisions about literacy, the needs of all students can be met.
The intended audience is K-12 administrators, curriculum specialists and literacy specialists; persons responsible for deciding and guiding the long-term K-12 plan for literacy in the school/district. This is an informational series, not intended for classroom teachers.
Participants should bring the ELA Frameworks Revised 2003 to each conference. The Arkansas Department of Education/Co-op Literacy Specialists will be providing handouts and selected texts. The specialists will also facilitate discussion groups after the teleconference. Please register with your local co-ops for teleconference times and locations.
